March 10 – Listening, Just Because He is There

We quiet our souls in Cor Unum, and we listen to hear what God says to the quiet and ready heart.

He speaks through His Word, through quiet impressions that we know are right and true according to His Word, and God speaks through His strength to our weakness.

His sheep hear His Voice.

The best part of listening, many times, is to hear the silence when it is full of God. The Scripture says that He FILLS us with joy and peace in believing, so that we will abound in hope (Romans 15:13.) For our cloistered souls, that is worth the price of keeping quiet until we know He is near and leading us onward.

The Scripture tells us that there is a “fullness” in God that fills “all in all (Ephesians 1:23,)” and that we have a part in it. Listening for this fullness is a monastic practice FILLED with delights.

Today in Cor Unum, let us listen above the sounds of nature and beneath the thoughts and impressions of our minds and beyond street sounds and household noises.

Let us hear God in His fullness, and take our quiet delight in the sound of His nearness.

  1. This is lovely! Thank you, Kerry. I'm coming back for a needed re-read (after I check dinner... in the oven -- which is, I should add, less important than *this* kind of nourishment, that of His Word.

  2. Kristin, your comments are FOOD for our souls.

Stillness is nourishing, as we will discuss tomorrow, and I hope you have some for dessert!
