January 5 – Unattractive

There has always been something about those black and brown and white garbed Sisters, veiled by choice and enclosed for holy purposes, that has the power to attract our curiosity, at the very least.

Some have attracted our respect over the centuries, like Mother Theresa whose cloister was the streets of India, and who worshiped in back alleys where she went to the poor, the sick, and the dying.

Quoting Peter Lord, through the ministry of Dame Diana, “Joyless, struggling religion will not attract.” The brothers and sisters of Cor Unum have this in common, that when they draw attention, they hope it is to the mercies and goodness, to the faithfulness and power of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Without joy, He is nearly invisible to others, because without JOY, we cannot reflect any accurate image of Him in the world.

Thus we begin this New Year with this “Conversatio” consideration . . . choose joy! . . . and we will see where joy will take us as we walk together with our Lord.
