April 27 – “Exclusive Listing”

We are considering together today what it means TO BE the house of the Lord. We are looking into the “many mansions” promise of Jesus Christ, that they are to be found “in (His) Father’s house.”

Is heaven God’s house? In 1 Kings 8:27, King Solomon says, “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?” This theme is repeated in Scripture, but we have not always carried it with us into our understanding concerning Jesus’ words.

Solomon made clear that neither the temple in Jerusalem, nor yet even the heaven of heavens could “house” the Lord God Jehovah. Let us take a look at another passage in the second chapter of Colossians, verse nine.

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” There IS a place where the fullness of God dwells, but it is not where THEY thought it might be, and it is not where WE often think God is to be “contained.”

The fullness of God dwells in His Son, and He told us plainly that in His Father’s house are many mansions. There is every indication here that we are not GOING TO a mansion in the sky, “just over the hilltop,” but that WE ARE the architecture of the display of God’s glory.

May we say, here together in Cor Unum . . . talk about prime real estate! The space, the light, the foundation, the amenities, the ambiance, the built-ins . . . we are housed IN Christ Jesus, to be the place where His glory dwells!
